The shape of the nose is one of the first facial features we notice, perhaps because it is located right in the middle of the face, and is always visible. Many patients decide for nose reshaping not only to change the nose, but also to modify the appearance of the face in general.

The medical specialists of Medical Aesthetics have learned and perfected an innovative technique from the hand of its creator, Dr. Mauricio de Maio, an internationally recognized plastic surgeon in the field of aesthetic medicine. Non-surgical rhinoplasty consists of reshaping of the nose using injections of hyaluronic acid (Revolax®, Juvederm®, Teosyal®, etc.). The technique allows to make subtle changes and correct the most common imperfections, such as concave and convex curvatures of the profile of the nose, or a drooping tip. With a few injections of HA, usually located at the fronto-nasal angle, the profile of the nose can be straightened. A projection or lifting of the tip of the nose can also be achieved, injecting in other anatomical areas. In some cases, combining HA injections with botulinum toxin (Azzalure®, Bocouture®, Vistabel®), the nasal projection can be made more pronounced. It is a real treatment option that can provide cosmetic improvements without the risk and cost of surgery. Results can last for months or years, delaying or even, in some cases, eliminating the need for surgical rhinoplasty.

Nose reshaping treatment

The treatment lasts about 30-45 minutes. Local anesthesia is applied to the area to be treated by means of a lidocaine cream. Once the sensitivity of the skin has been reduced, the HA is injected, accompanied by a light massage in the treated area. The aesthetic results can be visible immediately, although the final assessment will be carried out after 2 weeks of the treatment.

Candidates for nose reshaping

The treatment is ideal for patients who prefer a non-surgical option, with almost immediate results and without having to alter their daily activities. When nose imperfections are mild, non-surgical rhinoplasty can improve appearance simply, quickly, and virtually without pain. However, the treatment has its limitations, so that for patients with pronounced imperfections or deformities, the surgical option will be the most appropriate.

Risks and side-effects

In the hands of an experienced and properly trained physician, hyaluronic acid (HA) injections rarely cause problems. However, any medical treatment carries a risk. Patients with blood coagulation problems, infections, breast-feeding and pregnancy, among other medical conditions, are not good candidates for treatment.
Possible side effects and complications: bruising in the injected area, inflammation, allergic reactions, infection, embolism and subsequent skin necrosis. This last complication is extremely rare, although it has been described.
The most common after treatment is a small inflammation of the injected area that will gradually disappear in 24-48 hours, and sometimes small bruises that can be effectively covered with makeup after 12 hours.
